P6/7 are doing a new topic on space.
The first thing we did was draw and measure the earth and the moon to scale- even though, on the scale we had, we could not draw them because the radius was too small for the compasses we had. To overcome this we multiplied the scale by ten however this resulted in the sun being too big to fit on our paper.
We have also found out the distance between the sun and the earth is 150 million km. We scaled it down to one metre = 1000000km. To represent the distance we measured it down the street with the trundle wheel.
Things I would most like to find out about are:
How can’t you breathe in space?
How often does a meteor shower happen?
Is there life on any other planets, apart from earth?

The p6/7 class have been learning how to play cricket with Ross (a cricket tutor from Melrose) and on the Friday 8th of May we went to the Melrose Cricket Festival. There were four teams from Earlston two from Gordon and two from Melrose.
At the end of it we all got lollipops because we were all winners. It was really fun because we met a lot of people as well as going against each-other.

As our reward system in our class we receive puppy pounds. To receive puppy pounds you have to demonstrate good behaviour and hard work, such as: listening when the teacher is talking, winning maths games like countdown and number of the day, sitting quietly on the carpet or at our desks and focussing on the tasks we are given.
We have our own banks that we save up our puppy pounds in. Then on a Friday Miss Prentice opens a shop with Stationary (£5) , Lucky dip (£10) , Marbles (£2) and Certificates/Stickers (£10). We have a jar to put marbles in and when it is full we get a whole class treat of our choice.
We have recently filled the marble jar so our class has decided on having a party with no uniform and lots of party food!
I think the puppy pounds is a good behaviour system because it makes people want to be good so they can get puppy pounds and buy stuff from the shop and get marble jar treats.
On some Wednesdays I go to Earlston with Mrs Livingstone. We go on a bus that travels down the A6105.
When we are at Earlston we go to different places. We have been to the High School, Rhymers Cafe and shops.
At the High School we went to the library and we met Mrs Gray. We have looked at the canteen too. I am looking forward to going to High School in 2016.
At the cafe we have yummy food. I like to eat KitKats and Mrs Livingstone likes to eat Custard Creams.
I have visited the post office and posted letters. I have also been to the butchers to get Mr Wilson a pie.
In art, we have been making models of the human body. First, we got into our co-operative learning groups and drew around one of the members of our group. We then made the main organs to stick onto the bodies. Then we added more detail to the organs and made muscles and bones. We labelled some parts of the model.
In our groups, we looked at each group's model. We left a comment to say what we liked about their model and a comment about how they could have improved their model.
